When is my email going to change?

The upgrade process will take place over a 4 to 5 week period. You will have plenty of time to try out the new mail system before a permanent change occurs. The tentative schedule is as follows (although it is subject to change)...

August 14: Your email account will be added to Google's servers. If you log into your email from our web site (if you use web-based email instead of using an email program), any email messages, address book entries, and folders that are stored on our servers will be added to Google's servers. At this point, all email will go to BOTH the old servers and to Google's servers. So you can actually use both systems for this period.

September 9: All email accounts will be deleted from the old servers. In other words, on this date, the change is final and you will only be able to use your email through Google's servers.

IMPORTANT: At some point before September 9th, you might need to make two mandatory changes. First, if your email password is currently less than 8 characters, you will need to change it to something with eight characters or more. You should make this change as soon as possible. Secondly, if you use an email program, you will need to make some changes to your email program settings. This should be done after August 14th and before September 9th.
